So you have heard the expression "it takes a village to raise a child" well at Whispering Hills Farm we function under the Motto "it takes a pit crew to keep a horse healthy". Let me explain. Just like it takes a team of mechanics in the pits to win a race, it takes good diet, foot care, dental care, Chiropractic and medical care To keep a horse serviceable, sound and healthy. As a trainer I have seen many training problems that were simply solved though the use of one of these health professionals. I have seen bucking horses quit bucking after an adjustment, I have seen cranky horses change their attitude through a change in diet, I have seen a horse that could not pick up a right lead do flying lead changes in both directions after a shoeing, and I have seen dressage horses able to half pass after seeing a dentist. Healthy horses are happy horses!
Just having only one or two of these professionals will not keep your horse's performing at 100%. For example say you have a horse that has one hip lower than the other and you are a big supporter of Chiropractic but not of Farrier work. your horse will continually need adjustments to relieve the stress in its hips. However, using a good Farrier in combination with a chiropractor would be the wiser decision. A good Farrier could alter the foot on the shorter leg to even out the horses hips and help the horse hold his adjustments. At Whispering Hill Farms we feel fortunate all of these health professionals work together at our facility on a regular basis.
