The right diet does more for a horse then keeping them viable which by definition means alive. The right diet can heal a horse from the inside! When it comes to horse food, just like people, you are what you eat. It is unfortunate that modern premixed feeds are full of lots of stuff that a wild horse would never find on its own. Sugar being the main thing. In the wild, horses rarely find more then a table spoon of sugar a day and yet most premium feeds are full of it! What horses do forage for are herbs that their body needs to support its health. Natural herbs are always a better way to get the nutrients a horse need because it is 100% absorbable in it natural form. Most feeds are packed with large amounts of synthesized vitamins and minerals. Because these ingredients are in an unnatural form, the horses body only absorbs a small amount of what is in there, filtering out the extra in their kidneys. this of course taxes the kidneys while the sugar feeds any inflammation in the body.
