MUSTANG MADNESS! | |||||||
In 2009 Betsy Moles received an
invitation to compete in the Gatorland Extreme Mustang Make Over in Ocala
Florida. With out much hesitation she accepted the challenge that
would take her horsemanship in a new direction....
The Mustang Heritage Foundation, in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), created the Extreme Mustang Makeover event in order to recognize and highlight the value of Mustangs through a national training competition. Trainers have a set amount of time with the untrained horses to get them started under saddle. The purpose of the Extreme Mustang Makeover is to showcase the beauty, versatility and trainability of the rugged horses that roam freely on public lands throughout the West, where they are protected by the BLM under Federal law. At the conclusion of the Extreme Mustang Makeover the participating Mustangs are available for adoption by competitive bid. Through these events the foundation offers the public a special opportunity to adopt a true Living Legend. As a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, The Mustang Heritage Foundation is committed to increasing the awareness and adoption of American Mustangs. The Foundation is successfully helping the Bureau of Land Management reposition some of the nearly 30,000 wild horses available for adoption. Congressional legislation protects these magnificent animals in their natural habitat, but as herds grow and natural resources deplete, the BLM must gather excess Mustangs from the range to ensure a healthy ecological balance.
